Haunted House
The school bell ring. The students in the hall was chatting louder.
“Your homework for tonight is to write 2 pages of why did the French Revolution happen?”, says the history teacher.
All the students groan while they pack up with their backpack or pick up their backpack. They all walk out of history classroom.
“Thank god, it 's Friday, right?”, asks Monica.
Rosie says “Yes! Oh, where are we going to meet to study for the math test?”
“At 7:00, I'll meet you at Quincy Avenue near library.”
“What? We are not supposed to go there.”, exclaim Rosie.
“Relax, will you? Both of us are not going to be alone. Gloria and Sidney will be there too.”
“All right.”
Rosie is angry while she looks at her watch, “Uhh, now it's 7:15.” Rosie tries to leave, but Monica, Gloria, and Sidney secretly scare Rosie by jumping out of the bushes. Rosie jumps and gasps, “What are you doing?”
All the girls hear the growls from the bushes. They hug each other quickly and all the girls except Rosie start laughing because they know who was growling at them. It was Colin and Daniel. Rosie punches Monica's arm lightly, “Are you trying to scare me to death?”
Monica says, “Well, since tomorrow is Halloween, we decided to scare you and not to study for the math test tonight. We will study tomorrow or Sunday.”
“What are we going to do today?” asks Rosie. All of them grab her and put a blindfold on her, so they can go to the old mansion which is haunted and they want Rosie to come with them.
Rosie asks, “No, wait! What are we going to do? Are you going to tell me or not?”
His friends snigger, “Nope.”
“Ow, you stepped on my foot.”, says Gloria.
“Sorry. I don't know where my feet are going. You can unfold a blind me.”
“Ummm.... That's a good idea, but no.”
Daniel makes a noise, “Mwah- ah-ah-ah.”
Rosie asks, “What's that?”
“Calm down. It's only Daniel playing with you.”, says Sidney.
Gloria unfold blind her when they get to the front door of the haunted mansion. Rosie is not happy to see it. She tries to get out of there. It begins to rain and lightning with thunder.
“I guess we have to go inside until the rain over.”, says Monica.
“Grrr.”, softly said Rosie.
“What? No one is living there.”, says Monica.
Sidney says, “Yeah. We will be fine.”
“Uhh.... Did you said no one lives there?”, asks Colin.
Monica answers, “Yes. Why?”
“I saw someone turn on the light over there.”, says Colin and he points at where he saw.
A loud crashing thunder scares them and makes them jump. Then the front door opens.
“AAAAH!”, all of them hug together.
A man speaks raspy, “What is going on?!?”
“Oh. Sorry, sir.”, says Daniel. “We thought it was someone else.”
“Mmm. Oh, all right. Come in, come in. Don't want to get wet.”, says an old man with a cane.
All of them follow the old man to the living room.
The old man eased in the chair which is near the hearth as he says formally, “My name is Timothy Smith. Now tell me, why did you thought I was someone else?”
Daniel answers, “Well, sir--”
Timothy interrupts Daniel, “Please call me Mr. Smith.”
“Well, Mr. Smith, we thought this house was vacant and haunted.”
“Oh, that's right. The story.”
Gloria asks, “What story?”
“Why don't you sit down? I will begin the story.” They did and they felt they are five-years-old again because they are listening to the story.
“Eighty years ago, there was a ball here for celebration of Justin's and Fiona's engagement. Justin was my great- great grandfather. People kept dancing all night. That day, a man came in and kidnapped Fiona somewhere in this house. This man didn't want to let her go and didn't want her to marry Justin because this man loved her deeply. Justin couldn't find her because there is a hundreds rooms in this house. This man poisoned her, so they could died together as lovers, but Fiona didn't loved him. Justin finally found her. After he buried her, he stopped going out.” says Mr. Smith.
“Wow. Who was this man?”, asks Rosie.
Mr. Smith says, “I never know, but his spirit will be here when three things happen. The light will be off and fire or candle will lit out. The door will be open and close again. Something move by itself or by this man. His face is look like old skin and his teeth is crook and sharp.”
“I don't believe it.”, says Monica.
Monica explains, “There is no such thing like a ghost.”
“You better believe it soon because he will come after you if you don't believe it.”
Colin says, “Okay. We better leave because we don't want our parents to worry about where we were.”
“Yes, I agree. And look, raining stop.”, says Sidney while she points at the window.
Daniel smiles, “Thank you for telling us a story.”
Mr. Smith reply, “You are welcome.” They leave the house. They talk about this story because they don't believe it, but Mr. Smith do believe it.
They come back because Sidney left her bag at Mr. Smith's house and they are late nine o'clock curfew. When they get to the door, the door was unlock.
Sidney goes in while she opens the door slowly, “Mr. Smith?... Are you there?... Hello?... Mr. Smith? I came back because I left my bag here.”
Gloria, Monica, Rosie, Colin, and Daniel follow her into Mr. Smith's house. Then they hear swoosh of the wind which lit the fire out in the hearth. The door shuts by itself.
Someone moans, “Fiooonaaa...”
“Who said that? Is it Daniel?”, asks Rosie.
“I'm right here. This voice is coming from down the hall.”, says Daniel. Daniel suggests, “I think we should follow this voice.”
“No! We don't know who it was.”, shocks Monica.
“It must be Mr. Smith.”, says Colin.
“Why did he call Fiona?”, asks Gloria.
Daniel lift his shoulders, “I don't know. Let follow this voice.” They follow and heard some unfamiliar language.
Sidney step on something and lift her shoe up, “Ewww...What's this?” It's green thing that is sticky.
Rosie shushes, “Shhh! Would you be quiet?”
They hear something fall. A loud thud. They see a ball which was falling down the stairs. They wonder about how did the ball fall and why it was there. Then they turn around to the door where was behind them. Mr. Smith was there. He doesn't look happy because the kids come in without ringing a bell. He closes the door behind him, so on one can see what is there.
“Sorry. Mr Smith. I was looking for my bag which I left it here.”, says Sidney.
“It's in living room. Why are you doing here in the basement?”, frowns Mr. Smith.
